My dad and brother came to visit me and I was super excited about it! My dad was here in high school (about 40 years ago!) and my brother has never been here, so I was eager to share one of my favorite cities with them.
On Friday, we went down to the Financial District to check out the World Trade Center site and Wall Street. I haven't really been down there yet, so we all got to play tourists together. They are in the process of rebuilding the WTC buildings, so it is just a huge construction site at the moment. We did go and check out a free museum that is displaying the plans for the new WTC and had a lot of information on 9/11. It is supposed to be completed on Sept 11, 2011...but it barely looks like they've started! They best be gettin on it.
We continued to walk downtown to Wall Street and see all of those places downtown. We had tickets to the Statue of Liberty, so we just moseyed on down to Battery Park to catch the ferry. We had to go through airport-style security just to get on the ferry, and once again to get into the monument! Crazy! It was really fun walking around the island and taking photos of the Statue and all that.
After that, we went and got pizza at a really great spot in the Financial District...I wish I could remember the name! And then we headed back uptown.
That night, we went and saw Avenue Q!!!! I have been wanting to see this musical for forever, and it was amazing. If you don't know, Avenue Q is basically an adult musical spoof of Seasame Street. The actors use puppets to sing songs about porn and racism and its really hilarious and silly. We saw it at the New World Stages which only had about 500 seats total, and we were in the third row! Great seats! My dad and brother aren't really ones for musicals, but they seemed to enjoy it as well.
It was a long and tiring day, but a great start to their trip!
